Hamster for Self Driving Car Research
Hamster is a small, robust and autonomous robot for research and prototype development, at an amazing cost.
The Hamster comes with an onboard Raspberry Pi 3, motor encoder, LIDAR, an IMU and a GPS that enable high precision mapping, localisation and path planning algorithms.
Watch how Mitsubishi Electric Research Lab (MERL) demonstrates particle filter-based planning for autonomous and self driving vehicles using Hamster mini cars.
One car is controlled by MERL's planning algorithm and executes different driving maneuvers in traffic constituted of two cars that follow the center of pre-assigned lanes. The path partner algorithm generates target trajectories and velocities that are tracked by decoupled PID loops.
